  4. THIS DOWNLOAD
  5. This download is an updater to the latest version of Inner Space.  Since this
  6. is just an updater, it does not include the music, voice, sound FX, online help,
  7. or screen savers from the game.  If you do not already have Inner Space, please 
  8. download the full shareware version (including all files) from CompuServe 
  9. (GO GAMDPUB).

  11. INSTALLING
  12. You must first be in the Windows environment to install Inner Space.
  13. 1) Unzip INSPACE.ZIP in a temporary directory. 
  14. 2) Run SETUP.EXE, the Inner Space installer.  
  15. 3) Install Inner Space to a new directory (C:\SPACE by default) or over an
  16. existing copy of Inner Space to upgrade it.

  57. DEMO DISTRIBUTION
  58. You may give a copy of your Operation: Inner Space demo to others, but may not 
  59. distribute Operation: Inner Space for direct or indirect profit by any means, except 
  60. through express written agreement with Software Dynamics, Inc.

  62. STARTING TO PLAY
  63. Run Inner Space (INSPACE.EXE) from Windows.  During the game intro, press 'ESC' to
  64. start a new game. Select a ship to fly into Inner Space.  To start playing, just 
  65. use the arrow keys (Thrust=UP, Turn=LEFT, RIGHT, Brake=DOWN). Use Shift or SPACEBAR
  66. to shoot. For more information about the game, see the online help (press F1 or F2).

  68. SCREEN SAVERS 
  69. Inner Space comes with a configurable screen saver interface so that a changing
  70. game demonstration can be your screen saving display.

  72. SHIP FACTORY
  73. With the Inner Space Ship Factory, you can view all the ships in the game
  74. and compare their characteristics.  You can also use the Factory to make 
  75. customized ships for use in Inner Space!

  77. TECH SUPPORT
  78. We provide tech suppport by fax, email, and regular mail.  If you have access 
  79. to CompuServe, GO GAMDPUB and look in section 18 (Software Dynamics) for Inner Space 
  80. upgrades, hints, and technical support.

  82. If reporting a problem with the game, we ask that you tell us if you can repeat the 
  83. problem yourself and provide all information necessary for us to repeat the problem.  
  84. If we can't repeat the problem, it will be very hard to fix it.

  86. MEMORY
  87. If the game halts with an error, it may be that Windows is low on memory.  
  88. Please check that Windows is set up to use at least 2Mb of virtual memory.  To see or 
  89. change Virtual Memory settings, open the "386 Enhanced" item from the Windows Control
  90. Panel (CONTROL.EXE).

  92. VIDEO DRIVERS
  93. Inner Space has been extensively tested, but there may be problems with some video cards.  
  94. We can devise workarounds for such cards if we know about the problem. If there is a crash
  95. or error when the game is loading graphics, please try to reproduce the problem and tell us
  96. so that we can get working on a fix.

  98. MIDI MUSIC
  99. If Inner Space's music has incorrect or missing instruments, check your MIDI 
  100. mapper settings (in Windows Control Panel).  For Enhanced midi sound cards, use 
  101. channels 1-10, Basic midi sound cards use channels 11-16.

  103. NO SOUND
  104. You need a Windows-compatible sound card to hear Inner Space's audio.  If 
  105. you have a sound card that works with other Windows apps, but don't hear any
  106. audio in Inner Space, you may have an older sound card which might not 
  107. report itself correctly to Windows.  Therefore, to force Inner Space to play 
  108. audio, add "AllowSound=1" to your [Inner Space] section of INSPACE.INI (in 
  109. your Windows directory).
